How making bad decisions is helping your business

Why is making decisions so hard?

The fear of missing out when taking a decision instead of the other is often so strong that we end up not making decisions at all.

But what if making ANY decisions, even bad ones, was helping your business?

Let’s dive into this.

I love this quote from Mark Twain : “Good decisions come from experience. Experience comes from making bad decisions.”

I couldn’t agree more with him.

Missed opportunity

We often just stay awake all night asking ourselves, which one is the right decision. It keeps looping into your head again and again and we overthink everything and of every scenarios that can happen from each decision. But what if, not taking a decision was actually the worst thing you could do. What if taking any decision, even a bad one is actually a good thing!

It is hard to make decision, because it implies that we have to choose. And we feel like, by choosing one option, then we are closing the door to the other one. We feel like we are losing an opportunity.

Being stagnant

But not making any decisions might be worst than making a bad one. Because if we don’t make decisions, we are stagnant. We aren’t going anywhere.
To me, being stagnant is the worst thing that can happen. By not making decisions, you are not missing one opportunity, but all of them.

Regrets

Personally, I’m a massive action taker. Sometimes people message me on Instagram, telling me I look like I am bold or fearless. But trust me… I’m freaking scared.

But there is something I am more scared of than making wrong decisions : REGRETS.

I would hate to look back and think that I missed out on something, that I should have been more adventurous, should have taken more risks or experienced more things, that I shouldn’t have been so scared of everything. And I certainly don’t want to wake up when it’s too late.

When I think about all that…. Well, making decisions doesn’t seem that scary to me anymore.

Ask yourself the right question

When I am scared, I always ask myself: “what is the worst thing that can happen? And if it happens, will it really be the end of the world? Wouldn’t it just teach me something?”

If you start to link decisions to actions, then you learn from it, you learn from each decision you make in each experience. Which means that the next things you’re going to do, are going to be more aligned with yourself.

Learn

To be honest I don’t think there’s ever any bad decision. As long as you understand that a decision even a bad one is a lesson, a result, a chance to do something better, to learn something from what happened, then they have never had any bad decisions.

Decision and action

There is that other quote I love by Tony Robbins : A real decision is measured by the fact that you’ve taken new action.

Put simply, say you decide to start working out. Technically, you decided something. But then you actually don’t work out… Well, you haven’t really decide then, if actions don’t follow the decision.

It’s the same in business.

To link your decision to an action, you don’t have to wait for everything to be perfect. You just have to take actions, messy actions, and try. If it doesn’t work, then you change, you pick the other thing that you wanted to do but haven’t tried yet. And the more you try, the closer you get to your goal and you learn what you are good at and what you love to do.

Long story short

So, to summarize

  1. There is no such thing as bad decision : the only bad decision is to not take any. You will learn from all the decisions you will ever make. And the more you learn, the more you grow and evolve.
  2. Is making a bad decision worst to you than having regrets? Let me doubt it.
  3. TAKE ACTION

Just do it. Make decisions, take action and learn, whatever the outcome is.
